Porto Cristo, a beautiful place in the east of Mallorca with a lot of charm. It is located 13 kilometers from Manacor, and has about 1000 inhabitants. It is also known by the name of Port de Manacor or Cala Manacor. It is a small fishing and recreational port. It retains the appearance of a summer resort in the middle of the last century, although in recent times it has grown considerably, increasing tourist places in the immediate vicinity. Formerly it was a Roman port, and it has found remains of ships. The lack of beaches has caused it to not overcrowd.

What to see in Porto Cristo?
A walk through Porto Cristo begins near the beach, where we can see a curious statue of a mermaid, a 1988 work by sculptor Pere Pujol. It is on this walk where the weekly market is held every Sunday. It is not a large market, but we find enough stalls with vegetables, fruits, souvenirs, handicrafts ...
From here we go to the promenade, where first we see the swallows that make maritime crossings in this area. Then we will find the area with the fleet of fishing boats and the different moorings with the typical llauts (Majorcan boats). Thus we arrive at the area known as the Riuet with the presence of bars and restaurants. If we cross to the other side, after the llauts and a diving center that makes excursions to the next Cova des Coloms, we find the Yacht Club, founded in 1969 and that has 206 moorings. Here we can see sailboats, yachts and luxury boats.
We step back our steps, and if we want to take a walk through the interior area, the most outstanding monument is the Church of La Mare de Deu del Carmen. It is a small basilica church with a single nave, which is only open during church hours.

From here we go to the beach, where there is a walk, which if we follow it takes us on a route to one of its ends, where we find the Coves Blanques. They are small caves that were inhabited until the middle of the 19th century. Apparently, and thanks to their ideal conditions to become housing, it seems that they welcomed the first inhabitants of Porto Cristo who lived there in the 1830s. Its name comes from its whitish color, which makes them quite peculiar.
The beach of Porto Cristo is located at the end of a beautiful zeta-shaped sea inlet, surrounded by high and beautiful cliffs. These characteristics make Porto Cristo considered one of the most beautiful and best protected natural ports of the open sea and the east wind in Mallorca. The beach is not large, about 800 meters long, and is characterized by its fine golden sand, its beauty and its beautiful promenade, full of trees. The beach has lifeguard services, hammocks, velomares and water sports.
For those who want to anchor in Porto Cristo, the conditions for anchoring boats are optimal. The best place is located parallel to the cliffs, just to starboard of the breakwater of the entrance to the port, away from the beach, whose depth to the bottom of sand ranges between four and five meters.
The defensive tower Serral dels Falcons
About 15 minutes from downtown, on Joan Servera Camps Avenue we find the Serral del Falcons defensive tower. Built in 1577, it is 14 meters high and has magnificent views. It was part of a chain of towers with the mission of monitoring the legacy of Algerian pirate ships, communicating through smoke signals. During the Civil War it was destroyed because of the bombing of Republican troops, and in 1960 rebuilt by the owners of the land.
The views from this point are spectacular, with the blue sea, the high cliffs and part of the east coast of Mallorca. We also found some picnic tables, and some posters with information.
